Abstract
Racism still occurs among people with different racial populations today. The different racial then causes a different treatment of one race with another race. Treatment of someone based on race may drive to racism. This study discusses two problems. The first problem is to observe the acts of racism shown in the novel The Hate U Give (2017) by Angie Thomas. The second is to analyze the impacts of racism described in the novel. This study is library research. It means that the data were gathered from some books, research articles, and journals. This study uses Social Cognitive Theory which pays attention to the character’s behavior and past experiences. The result of the first analysis is that racism happens to African Americans and oriental society. The form of racism is through verbal expression and bad assumptions. The second result is the impact of racism. The impacts of racism are psychological impacts and social impacts. The psychological impact of racism produces trauma and stress, and the social impact of racism produces the emergence of resistance movements carried out by community groups.
