Abstract

This study discusses the value of struggles experienced by Katniss Everdeen. The objectives of this study are 1) to identify the struggles that Katniss has been carried out, 2) to know the value of struggles that Katniss has been carried out, 3) to figure out the reasons behind Katniss ' struggles, and 4) to identify the impacts of Katniss' struggles. This research applied the qualitative method. The main data of this research are words, phrases, and sentences related to the theory of Joyomartono (1990) about the Value of Struggle. In analyzing the data, the researcher passed some steps, namely reading, recording and classifying, coding, and drawing conclusions. Based on the analysis of the novel The Hunger Games, there are five values of Katniss ' struggle. They are 1) the value of being willing to sacrifice, 2) the value of unity, 3) the value of respect, 4) the value of spirit and unyielding, and 5) the values of cooperation. The results of this analysis are based on Katniss ' actions which show the values of sacrifice, unity, spirit, and cooperation. Katniss Everdeen's struggle is driven by several reasons namely, to protect her family, friends and also to survive in The Hunger Games. Katniss' actions also had an impact on her family, friends , and the community who saw her actions .
