Abstract

Concrete (brick) is a brick-shaped building element made from the main ingredients of portland cement, water, and aggregate, used for wall cladding. Concrete bricks are divided into solid concrete bricks and hollow concrete bricks. This research was conducted by replacing sand aggregate with golden snail shell material. This study aimed to determine the characteristics, quality, and compressive strength of bricks made from golden snail shells with standard bricks. This study uses data analysis methods and comparisons of standard bricks with golden snail shell bricks according to SNI 03-0349-1989. Material testing was carried out at the Sabo Engineering Center Laboratory and PT. Various Dharma Persada. Meanwhile, the Yogyakarta State University Laboratory conducted the compressive strength test. In this study, two analyzes and calculations were carried out, namely testing the compressive strength of standard bricks with fine aggregate sand and testing the compressive strength of golden snail shell bricks as a substitute for sand. Testing the compressive strength of regular bricks obtained data with five test objects, namely 25.40 kg/cm2, 16.80 kg/cm2, 27.65 kg/cm2, and 33.33 kg/cm2, with the average compressive strength in that is 26.15 kg/cm2. While the bricks were made from Golden Conch Shell with five samples of specimens, the compressive strength of test object 1 was 23.16 (kg/cm2), test object 2 was 12.87 (kg/cm2), test object 3 was 27.25 (kg/cm2 ), test object 4 is 18.79 (kg/cm2), test object 5 is 17.32 (kg/cm2), with an average value of 19.88 kg/cm2, where both types of bricks are included in bricks with a level of quality IV. According to SNI 03-0349-1989 regulation, grade IV is concrete brick used for non-load-bearing construction, insulating walls, and other non-load-bearing constructions, insulating walls, and other constructions. Keywords: Brick, Golden Conch Shell Waste, compressive strength.
