Abstract

This research is done to answer two research questions as follows: what type of idioms are found in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi movie and what is the dominant type of idioms used by characters in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi movie. This research is aimed to find out the types and the dominant of English idiomatic in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi movie. This research uses qualitative design to obtain the data. It means the researcher can use library research which is collecting books, audio, documents, and other printed materials as the source data. The object of this research is English idiomatic expressions found in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi movie. The data were gained from dialogue inside the movie. The sentences were used to show the idiomatic and important to know the mean of idiomatic in the movie. This study reveals that there are forty five idiomatic phrasal verbs, twenty two idiomatic prepositional verbs, and three idiomatic partial idioms. All of the idiomatic words have their own meaning that are different from their lexically meaning. This study also reveals the most dominant type of idioms which is phrasal verbs more than sixty percent, then prepositional verbs, and partial idioms less than forty percent.
