Abstract
The research conducted by the writer is a study of figurative language. The purpose of this research is to find out the types of figurative language in Fiona Apple's song lyrics and the most dominant types of figurative language that Fiona Apple used in his song lyrics. The researcher analyzed each figurative language using the combined theory from Mezo and Perrine. This is qualitative research where the data used in this study are in the form of figurative expressions contained in the lyrics of Fiona Apple's songs. Based on the analysis, there are two results found. First, there are 5 types of figurative language that Fiona Apple used in writing his song lyrics, namely Metaphor with 23 data (43%), Hyperbole with 17 data (32%), Simile with 7 with data (13%), Metonymy with 4 data (8%), and Synecdoche with 2 data (4%). Second, the most dominant type of figurative language used in Fiona Apple's song lyrics is Metaphor.
