Abstract

People who are capable of speaking and writing two languages well are called "bilingual", they commonly switch a language to another in their communication, that is code switching. This study focuses on analysing code switching used in Deddy Corbuzier Podcast entitle An Analysis of Code-Switching Used in Deddy Corbuzier’s Youtube Podcast “JADI GINI KISAHNYA... PAHAM”. using theory of code switching proposed by Romaine in Susanto (2008) and Hoffman (1992). The aims of this research are 1). to describe and analyzes the types of code switching and finding the most dominant of them, and 2). The objectives of this study are to find out the most dominant type of code switching and the reasons for Deddy or Azka code switch her language in the Podcast. The result of this study shows that there are three types of code switching used by Deddy or Azka in the Podcast: intra-sentential switching, inter-sentential switching, and tag switching. In detail, there are 7 intra-sentential switching, 8 inter-sentential switching, and 6 tag switching. There are 7 reasons of Kimmy Jayanti code switch her language : 2 data of talking about a particular topic, 1 data of quoting somebody else, 1 data of showing empathy about something, 1 data of interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connector), 1 data of repetition used for clarification, 1 data of expressing group identity, and 1 data of intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor.
