Abstract
Sometimes, arranged marriages are seen as forced choices, and we imagine how hard it would be to live with a stranger we do not know at all. In Julian Quinn's The Duke & I, the novel explains the other side of an arranged marriage, describes the benefits of an arranged marriage, and opens new meanings to an arranged marriage. This study has three objectives: 1) to explain the types or characteristics in this novel, 2) to explain how the process of arranged marriage occurs between the two couples in the story, and finally, 3) to explain the impact of arranged marriage, whether the impact is positive or negative. This research is descriptive qualitative research, and the writer uses objective theory and analysis. In its implementation, this research uses the literature study method. The writer used read and recording techniques to collect research data. Arranged marriage among the nobility is very considerate in all aspects. For them, arranged marriage for their children must bring many benefits. Therefore, their family will not experience hardship, and the throne they have will not go down just like that. In the arranged marriage process, they can get to know each other and find out what their partner's personality is. Each couple's opinion is also considered in this novel. They have the right to voice their opinions because this arranged marriage is not something that is just forced. Then, it can have a positive impact and benefit both families.
