Abstract
This research aims to determine the characterization of a boy who is described as the main character in one of the Goosebumps series entitled, How to Kill a Monster. This research is a qualitative descriptive method. To conduct this research, the author uses objective theory and uses the novel as the main source. The author chooses the theory by Jones to analyse the characterization of the main character. According to Jones, characterization is the depiction of a clear picture of a person described from the beginning of the character's appearance, behaviour, story, thoughts, and character processes. The results found that the characterization of the main character in the novel Goosebumps: How to Kill a Monster there are 2 types of characters, good characters include brave, initiative and have a leadership spirit, while the bad characters are impatient and pessimistic. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penokohan seorang anak laki-laki yang digambarkan sebagai tokoh utama dalam salah satu serial Goosebumps berjudul, How to Kill a Monster. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Untuk melakukan penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan teori objektif dan menggunakan novel sebagai sumber utama. Penulis memilih teori oleh Jones untuk menganalisis karakterisasi tokoh utama. Menurut Jones karakterisasi adalah penggambaran gambar yang jelas dari seseorang yang digambarkan dari awal kemunculan karakter, perilaku, cerita, pemikiran, dan proses karakter. Hasilnya didapati bahwa karakterisasi tokoh utama pada novel Goosebumps: How to Kill a Monster terdapat 2 jenis karakter, karakter baik meliputi pemberani, inisiatif dan memiliki jiwa pemimpin, sedangkan karakter buruknya adalah tidak sabar dan pesimis.
