Abstract

This research is focused on exploring the types of gaming language employed in esports tournaments, specifically by Team Liquid players during the DotA 2: The International 2019 Finals. The study utilizes data from the official documentation titled “True Sight: The International 2019 Finals.” The objectives of this study are to elucidate the various types of gaming language used and to identify the most prevalent among them. The data collected for this research is presented using a descriptive qualitative method. Through analysis of the documentation, the researcher identified five key types of gaming language: Slang and Acronyms, Game-specific Terms, Trash Talk and Banter, Lingo for In-game Actions, and Meta and Strategy Talk. Upon analysing the documentation, the researcher catalogued a total of 355 instances of gaming language used by Team Liquid players. Notably, Game-specific Terms emerged as the dominant and most frequently employed type of gaming language, accounting for 102 instances. Game-specific Terms play a pivotal role in enhancing communication, facilitating strategic discussions, and fostering a strong sense of community within the gaming world. They significantly contribute to the rich and evolving language of gaming culture, illustrating the depth and complexity of the gaming experience. Penelitian ini difokuskan pada menjelajahi jenis bahasa gaming yang digunakan dalam turnamen esports, khususnya oleh pemain Team Liquid selama DotA 2: The International 2019 Finals. Studi ini menggunakan data dari dokumentasi resmi berjudul “True Sight: The International 2019 Finals.” Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan berbagai jenis bahasa gaming yang digunakan dan mengidentifikasi yang paling umum di antaranya. Data yang terkumpul untuk penelitian ini disajikan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Melalui analisis dokumentasi, peneliti mengidentifikasi lima jenis utama bahasa gaming: Bahasa Gaul dan Akronim, Istilah Khusus Game, Omong Kosong dan Candaan, Istilah untuk Tindakan dalam Permainan, dan Bahasa Meta dan Strategi. Setelah menganalisis dokumentasi, peneliti mencatat total 355 contoh bahasa gaming yang digunakan oleh pemain Team Liquid. Terutama, Istilah Khusus Game muncul sebagai jenis bahasa gaming yang dominan dan paling sering digunakan, dengan total 102 contoh. Istilah Khusus Game memainkan peran penting dalam meningkatkan komunikasi, memfasilitasi diskusi strategis, dan memupuk rasa komunitas yang kuat dalam dunia gaming. Mereka secara signifikan berkontribusi pada bahasa yang kaya dan berkembang dari budaya gaming, menggambarkan kedalaman dan kompleksitas pengalaman bermain game
