Abstract

This research discusses Atticus Finch efforts in solving racial discrimination in Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird. In this study, the researcher discussed three problems. The first objective is to discuss Atticus Finch’s reason for defending Tom Robinson amidst racial discrimination. The second objective is to discuss Atticus Finch efforts to fight against racial discrimination. The third objective is to find out the positive impact of Atticus Finch efforts against racial discrimination. The researcher used qualitative methods in this study and adopted the objective theory. The objective theory looks at or examines literary works from an intrinsic perspective that builds literary works, such as themes, characters and characterizations, setting, plot, and style of language. As a result, the researcher finds that Atticus Finch did everything he could to defend Tom Robinson with zeal and dedication, even though they ultimately faced great difficulties in seeking justice in a court dominated by prejudice and racism. In the process, Atticus became a symbol of courage and integrity, delivering a powerful message about the importance of fighting injustice and fighting for justice for all people Penelitian ini membahas upaya Atticus Finch melawan diskriminasi rasial dalam novel To Kill a Mockingbird karya Harper Lee. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti membahas tiga masalah, 1). Alasan Atticus Finch membela Tom Robinson ditengah diskriminasi rasial, 2).
