Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know the friendship presented in EB White’s novel, Charlotte Web. The writer proposes three questions. The first is what kind of characters Charlotte and Wilbur are. The second is the types of friendship in the novel Charlotte's Web by EB White. The third is whether there are moral values in the novel's friendship between Charlotte and Wilbur. The study uses descriptive and qualitative methods with the novel as the primary data source. Objective Theory assists the writer in getting the data and analyzing them. The method of collecting data is to examine the intrinsic aspects of the novel, such as characterization and plot. The writer interpreted the data she gathered and related them with the theory of friendship she got from W. D. Ross. The study found that both Charlotte and Wilbur have good characters, such as caring, willing to sacrifice for others, motivating, never giving up, and full of curiosity. The result of the study also shows that the friendship that appears in the novel is mutualistic, pleasure�oriented, and kindness-based. Those kinds of friendship prove to bring good moral values such as trustworthiness, caring, empathy, humility, tolerance, and cooperation. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persahabatan yang disajikan dalam novel EB White, Charlotte Web. Ada tiga pertanyaan yang diajukan oleh penulis. Yang pertama adalah karakter seperti apa Charlotte dan Wilbur. Kedua, jenis persahabatan seperti apa yang muncul dalam novel Charlotte's Web karya EB White. Yang ketiga adalah apakah ada nilai-nilai moral dalam persahabatan antara Charlotte dan Wilbur dalam novel tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dan kualitatif dengan novel sebagai sumber data utama. Teori Objektif membantu penulis dalam mendapatkan data dalam menganalisisnya. Metode pengumpulan data yang dilakukan adalah dengan meneliti aspek intrinsik dari novel tersebut, seperti penokohan dan alur cerita. Penulis menginterpretasikan data yang telah dikumpulkan dan menghubungkannya dengan teori persahabatan yang penulis dapatkan dari W.D. Ross. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Charlotte dan Wilbur memiliki karakter yang baik, seperti peduli, rela berkorban untuk orang lain, memotivasi, pantang menyerah, dan penuh rasa ingin tahu. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa persahabatan yang muncul dalam novel ini bersifat mutualistik, berorientasi pada kesenangan, dan berbasis kebaikan. Persahabatan yang demikian terbukti membawa nilai-nilai moral yang baik seperti dapat dipercaya, kepedulian, empati, kerendahan hati, toleransi, dan kerja sama.
