Abstract
This research discusses the types of human rights violations that occurred in a utopian community and how these human rights violations later had an impact on Lois Lowry's The Giver. This research uses descriptive analysis. The data obtained in this study was generated based on reading books and quoting the required narration or dialogue. This research is supported by United Nations' The Concept of Human Rights and Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs. The content of this research shows how The Concept of Human Rights and Hierarchy of Human Needs are instruments for identifying human rights violations that are considered to have occurred within the community in the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. The results of the research show there being various types of human rights violations that occur in the community and their impacts. Penelitian ini membahas tipe-tipe pelanggaran hak asasi manusia yang terjadi di dalam sebuah komunitas utopia serta bagaimana pelanggaran hak asasi manusia itu kemudian memberikan dampak di buku The Giver karya Lois Lowry. Penelitian ini bersifat analisis deskriptif. Data yang didapatkan di dalam penelitian ini dihasilkan berdasarkan kegiatan membaca buku dan mengutip narasi atau dialog yang dibutuhkan. Penelitian ini didukung oleh The Concept of Human Right oleh United Nations dan Hierarchy of Human Needs oleh Abraham Maslow. Isi dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bagaimana The Concept of Human Right dan Hierarchy of Human Needs menjadi salah satu instrumen untuk mengidentifikasikan adanya pelanggaran hak asasi manusia yang dianggap terjadi di dalam komunitas di dalam buku The Giver karya Lois Lowry. Hasil penelitian kemudian menunjukkan berbagai jenis pelanggaran hak asasi manusia yang terjadi di dalam komunitas beserta dampaknya.
