Abstract
This research is a study of the women’s language used by Catherine Earnshaw as the main character in the novel Wuthering Heights. This research aims to determine the types of women’s language features used by the main character and to determine the most dominant women’s language features used by the main character. The method used in this research is a qualitative method and observation by collecting data through dialogues conversation from the novel. In answering the problem formulation, the researcher used Lakoff's theory (1975). The results of this study indicate that there are eight out of ten female language features used by the main characters in the novel. These features include Lexical Hedges or Fillers (19%), Tag Questions (2%), Rising Intonation (51%), Intensifiers (7%), Hypercorrect Grammar (3%), Super Polite Forms (3%), Avoiding Loud Words (5%), and Emphasizing Stress (9%). Features of women's language that are not found are Emphatic Adjectives and Precise Color Terms. Penilitian ini adalah studi tentang bahasa wanita yang digunakan oleh Catherine Earnshaw sebagai karakter utama dalam novel Wuthering Heights. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui jenis fitur bahasa wanita yang digunakan oleh karakterutama dan untuk mengetahui fitur bahasa wanita yang paling dominan digunakan oleh karakter utama. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode kualitatif dan observasi dengan cara mengumpulkan data melalui dialog percakapandari novel. Dalam menjawab rumusan masalah, peneliti menggunakan teori Lakoff(1975). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat delapan dari sepuluh fitur bahasa wanita yang digunakan karakter utama dalam novel. Fitur-fitur tersebut antara lain adalah Lexical Hedges atau Fillers (19%), Tag Question (2%), Rising Intonation (51%), Intensifiers (7%), Hypercorrect Grammar (3%), Super Polite Forms (3%), Menghindari Kata-kata Keras (5%), dan Menekankan Stres (9%). Fitur bahasa wanita yang tidak ditemukan adalah Emphatic Adjectives dan Precise Color Terms.
