Abstract
This study aims to determine the independence of Beth Harmon in The Queen's Gambit novel. The study uses descriptive and qualitative methods with the novel as the primary data source. The Objective Theory help the writer in getting the data and analyzing them. The data analysis process in this research examines the novel's Independence aspects contained in the conversation and each paragraph. The writer interpreted the data she gathered and related them with the theory of independence from Robert Havighurts (1972). From the studies conducted, four aspects are used as the basis for Beth Harmon has independence. These aspects are intelligence, social, emotional, and economic. The results found that Beth has passed these four aspects, so she is an independent person who defines the character of independence itself
