Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the leadership of the main character named Ralph from the novel Lord of the Flies. In this paper, the author provides two problem statements, which are what leadership behaviors are dominant in Ralph and what are the leadership characteristics are present in Ralph that make him a worthy leader. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method that uses the novel as its main data source. The writer also applies the use of objective theory in this study. The use of data collection methods is also used to examine the leadership aspects contained in each dialog and paragraph of the novel. The writer explains the collected data and relates it to Robert House's leadership behavior theory and Rudolph Muteswa's leadership characteristics. From the studies that have been conducted, there are four types of leadership behavior that form the basis of this study. These leadership behaviors are directive, supportive, participative, and achievement oriented. The results of this study is that directive leadership behavior is the most dominant in Ralph's leadership. Moreover, there are six types of leadership characteristics that are also the basis of this study, namely confidence, ability to communicate, toughness and inspirationality, honesty, humility, and commitment. The writer found that Ralph has all these leadership characteristics, so it can be said that Ralph deserves to be a leader. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan kepemimpinan dari karakter utama bernama Ralph dari novel Lord of the Flies. Pada paper ini, penulis menyediakan dua pernyataan masalah, yang dimana adalah perilaku kepemimpinan apa yang dominan pada diri Ralph dan apa karakteristik�karakteristik pemimpin yang ada pada diri Ralph yang membuatnya menjadi pemimpin yang layak. Studi ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang menggunakan novel sebagai sumber data utamanya. Penulis juga mengaplikasikan pengunaan teori objektif dalam studi ini. Penggunaan metode dari pengumpulan data juga digunakan untuk meneliti aspek-aspek kepemimpinan yang terkadung dalam setiap dialog dan paragraf dari novel. Penulis menjelaskan data-data yang telah dikumpulan dan menghubungkannya dengan teori perilaku kepemimpinan dari Robert House dan karakteristik kepemimpinan dari Rudolph Muteswa. Dari studi yang telah dilakukan, ada empat jenis perilaku kepemimpinan yang menjadi landasan pada studi ini. Perilaku kepemimpinan itu adalah directive, supportive, participative, dan achievement oriented. hasil yang ditemukan berupa directive leadership behaviour menjadi yang paling dominan pada kepemimpinan dari Ralph. Juga, ada enam macam karakteristik pemimpin yang juga menjadi landasan pada studi ini, yaitu confidence, ability to communicate, toughness and inspirationality, honesty, humility, and commitment. Penulis menemukan bahwa Ralph memiliki semua karakteristik kepemimpinan ini, sehingga bisa dikatakan bahwa Ralph layak untuk menjadi pemimpin.
