Abstract

Sacrifice is an act of sincere moral awareness or can also be interpreted as a person's willingness to do something that is usually shown to someone who has the intent or meaning of the action, in the form of help and does not expect reward from an action or willingness. Self-sacrifice also often occurs in everyday life. This study aims to analyze the 7th novel by J.K Rowllings entitled Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. The writer use a descriptive qualitative study that examines the types, causes, and effects of Severus Snape's self-sacrifice by matching the data collected from the novel and the theory used. The writer also uses the theory of altruism which is the desire to help others without thinking about their own interests according to Myers (2012). The results of this study indicate that the reasons for Severus Snape's sacrifice were friendship and love, and the form of sacrifice is to let Lily marry James Potter, act as a double agent, protect and help Harry wherever he is, and force to kill Dumbledore to convince Voldemort that Snape is on his side. Pengorbanan adalah tindakan kesadaran moral yang tulus atau dapat juga diartikan sebagai kerelaan seseorang untuk melakukan sesuatu yang biasanya ditunjukkan kepada seseorang yang memiliki maksud atau makna dari tindakan tersebut, berupa pertolongan dan tidak mengharapkan imbalan dari suatu tindakan atau kerelaan. Namun pengorbanan diri sendiri juga sering terjadi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis novel ke-7 karya J.K Rowllings yang berjudul Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. Dengan fokus pada sikap pengorbanan diri yang ditunjukkan oleh salah satu karakternya, Severus Snape. Studi ini bersifat kualitatif deskriptif yang mengkaji jenis-jenis, penyebab, dan dampak dari sikap pengorbanan diri yang dilakukan oleh Severus Snape dengan mencocokkan data yang dikumpulkan dari novel tersebut dan teori yang digunakan. Penulis juga menggunakan teori Altruisme yang merupakan hasrat untuk menolong oranglain tanpa memikirkan kepentingan sendiri menurut Myers (2012). Hasil dari studi ini menunjukkan bahwa alasan pengorbanan Severus Snape adalah karena persahabatan dan cinta, dan bentuk pengorbanannya adalah dengan membiarkan Lily menikah dengan James Potter, bertindak sebagai agen ganda, melindungi dan membantu Harry dimanapun dia berada, dan terpaksa membunuh Dumbledore untuk meyakinkan Voldemort bahwa Snape ada dipihaknya.
