Abstract

This research discusses the characterization of Charles Pooter in a novel entitled The Diary of a Nobody. The problem in this research includes depicting Pooter's personality and his relationship with other characters. This research is supported by objective theory and psychology. The method used to collect the data in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data is obtained from reading the novel and selecting some of the dialogues needed. The finding of this research shows the different sides of Pooter's personality as the main character and his relationship. The finding of this research shows Pooter's personality which is simple, forgiving, humorous, and ambitious, but also arrogant, selfish, reckless, and likes to criticize, which influences his relationships with other characters. Penelitian ini membahas tentang karakterisasi Charles Pooter dalam novel yang berjudul The Diary of a Nobody. Masalah dalam penelitian ini mencakup penggambaran keperibadian Pooter dan juga relasinya dengan tokoh-tokoh lain. Penelian ini didukung oleh teori objektif dan psikologi. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif deskriptif. Data didapatkan dari hasil membaca novel dan memilih beberapa dialog yang dibutuhkan. Isi dari penelitian ini menunjukkan perbedaan sisi keperibadian Pooter sebagai tokoh utama dan relasinya. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa keperibadian Pooter yang sederhana, pemaaf, humoris, ambisius, namun juga sombong, egois, ceroboh, dan suka mencela yang kemudian mempengaruhi relasinya dengan tokoh-tokoh lain.
