Abstract
This study discusses the character Monster Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein. This study discusses the internal conflicts experienced by Monsters, conflict resolution and moral values that occur after conflicts. This study is a qualitative descriptive study. In this study, there are three objectives: 1). To find out the internal conflict experienced by Monster. 2). To find out how the Monster resolves the conflicts. 3). To find out the moral values embodied in Monsters.The literature theory used to analyze is the type of internal conflict based on Kurt Lewin while conflict resolution is according to Thomas-Kilmann, then the researcher uses Webster’s theory to categorize moral values. After collecting and analyzing the data, researcher classify internal conflict into two types of internal conflict experienced by Monster: avoidance-avoidance conflict, and approach-avoidance. Then, the researcher classifies conflict resolution based on Thomas-Kilmann into four types of conflict resolution: accommodating, avoiding, collaborating, compromising. Finally, the researcher categorizes moral values based on Webster into seven including: bravery, enthusiasm, kind hearted, peace-loving, perseverance, sacrificing for others, sincerity. Penelitian ini membahas karakter Monster Frankenstein dalam novel Frankenstein karya Mary Shelley. Penelitian ini membahas tentang konflik internal yang dialami oleh Monster, penyelesaian konflik serta nilai moral yang terjadi setelah adanya konflik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam skripsi ini, terdapat tiga tujuan yaitu: 1). Untuk mengetahui konflik internal yang dialami Monster. 2). Untuk mengetahui bagaimana Monster menyelesaikan konflik. 3). Untuk mengetahui nilai moral yang terkandung dalam Monster. Teori literatur yang digunakan untuk menganalisis adalah jenis internal konflik dikemukakan oleh Kurt Lewin sedangkan konflik resolusi dikemukakan oleh Thomas-Kilmann, kemudian peneliti menggunakan teori dari Webster untuk mengkategorikan nilai moral. Setelah mengoleksi dan menganalisa data, peneliti mengklasifikasikan konflik internal kedalam dua jenis konflik internal yang dialami Monster yaitu: avoidance-avoidance konflik, dan approach-avoidance. Kemudian, peneliti mengklasifikasikan resolusi konflik berdasarkan Thomas-Kilmann kedalam empat jenis resolusi konflik yaitu: accommodating, avoiding, collaborating, compromising. Terakhir, peneliti mengkategorikan nilai moral berdasarkan Webster kedalam tujuh termasuk: bravery, enthusiasm, kind hearted, peace-loveng, perseverance, sacrificing for other, sincerity
