Abstract

Lopahin is one of the main characters in The Cherry Orchard. He holds some important yet influential roles toward the other characters that existed in the play script such as the Andreyevna family. The family is known to have fundamental principles as a noble family. Their principles rather cause difficulties in solving their financial problems. This study aims to analyze Lopahin's role in changing the Andreyevna family’s fundamental principles. The first objective is to reveal Lopahin’s roles in The Cherry Orchard that underlie his actions to influence the family. The second objective is to discuss how Lopahin influences the family to change their fundamental principles. The third objective aims to find out the fundamental principle changes. It is descriptive qualitative research and applies the objective theory. This study is conducted by implementing a library research method. Reading and note-taking techniques are used to collect the data. This study reveals that Lopahin holds two important roles in the play script, he is a kin to the family and a successful merchant. Through the roles, Lopahin influences the family to change their fundamental principles. this study also finds that Lopahin helps the family to solve their financial problems and offers the family a realization of their principles as a form of his actions to change them. As a result of Lopahin’s actions, the family finds more grace in accepting their life changes. In conclusion, Lopahin is the key to the family’s fundamental principles changes Lopahin merupakan salah satu tokoh utama yang ada di dalam naskah drama The Cherry Orchard. Dia memiliki peranan penting dan berpengaruh terhadap tokoh�tokoh lain, salah satunya adalah keluarga Andreyevna. Mereka diketahui memiliki prinsip-prinsip dasar sebagai keluarga bangsawan. Keluarga Andreyevna mengalami kesulitan dalam memecahkan masalah keuangan mereka disebabkan oleh prinsip-prinsip tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran seorang Lopahin dalam merubah prinsip-prinsip dasar yang dimiliki oleh keluarga Andreyevna. Penelitian ini memiliki tiga tujuan: 1) menganalisis peran-peran Lopahin dalam naskah drama The Cherry Orchard, 2) menganalisis bagaimana Lopahin mempengaruhi keluarga Andreyevna untuk merubah prinsip-prinsip dasar mereka, dan 3) menemukan perubahan-perubahan prinsip yang terjadi pada keluarga Andreyevna. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dan menggunakan teori objektif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode studi pustaka. Teknik pembacaan dan pencatatan merupakan teknik yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Lopahin memliki dua peran penting, yaitu sebagai seorang kerabat dan pedagang sukses. Melalui kedua peran tersebut, Lopahin mempengaruhi keluarga Andreyevna untuk mengubah prinsip�prinsip dasar mereka. Sebagai bentuk tindakannya dalam merubah keluarga Andreyevna, Lopahin memberikan keluarga tersebut bantuan untuk mengatasi masalah keuangan mereka dan kesadaran akan prinsip-prinsip yang mereka miliki. Hasil dari tindakan Lopahin, ditemukan bahwa keluarga Andreyevna mengalami perubahan sikap dalam menerima perubahan hidup mereka. Berdasarkan penemuan-penemuan dalam penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Lopahin merupakan kunci dari perubahan prinsip-prinsip dasar keluarga Andreyevna.
