Abstract
The research focused on exploring the types of swear words Adam Sandler spoke and the reason for swearing in the Uncut Gems movie. It belongs to the field of sociolinguistics, which is the branch of linguistics that studies language and its functions in society. The purpose of this research is to uncover the types of swear words and reasons for swearing. The data collected for this study was presented using descriptive qualitative methods. Data from this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences spoken by Adam Sandler in the Uncut Gems movie in the second 60 minutes. This study reveals that there are four classifications of the swear words spoken by Adam Sandler in the film Uncut Gems, namely; Expletive Swearing, Abusive Swearing, Humorous Swearing, and Auxiliary Swearing. In addition to the objective of the study, the second showed there are three classifications of the reasons for rude speech: Psychological Reason, Social Reason, and Linguistic Reason.
