Abstract

This research discusses the conflicts experienced by the characters in the novel How To Stop Time. The aim of this research is, firstly, to find out what conflicts are experienced by the characters in the novel How To Stop Time. The second is to find out how the characters resolve the conflicts they experience. This research is qualitative research which originates from a novel and then the novel is analyzed according to the title of the research conducted. From the research conducted by the writer, the writer found forty-four conflicts contained in the novel How To Stop Time, which are divided into four types of conflict: internal conflict, man vs man, man vs society, and finally man vs nature. Of the four types of conflict found, the writer found the most conflict in man vs man and the least in man vs nature. Apart from that, the writer found thirty-three conflict resolutions, so there were eleven unresolved conflicts. The writer also finds how the characters can get the most conflict resolution through mediation because most characters can resolve their conflicts with the help of other people or third parties.
