Abstract
This study entitled "An Analysis of Language Variety Found in Akeelah and the Bee Movie" is aimed to find out the types of language variety and to find out the function of language variety in the movie. This research method is qualitative descriptive. The reason for using qualitative descriptive that it is suitable to describe variation of language. The type of data is secondary data sources taken indirectly in the movie and the script on the movie Akeelah and the Bee. The data were collected by watching the movie, reading the script of the movie to make sure the data exist, underlining the data on the script and putting the data on the paper according to the types and the function of language variety. The writer used four steps to analyse the data, they are data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The result of this research shows that there are three types of language varieties, they are a) dialect (accents of afro American, accents America standard, and accents Asian American), b) idiolect (informal), c) sociolect (slang (4), acrolect (4), colloquial (4) and jargon (4)). Then, there are two functions of language varieties, they are a) communication and b) identity
