Abstract

This research is qualitative research that focuses on analyzing the use of swear words in the Netflix series Teenage Bounty Hunters. The researcher used theory from Wardhaugh (2006) to analyze types of swear words and theory from Pinker (2007) to analyze the functions of swear words. From the analysis, the researcher found there are 228 data. Researcher found eight types of swearing, such as Animal Terms (5.26%), Body Function Terms (7.45%), Death Terms (13.15%), Excretion Terms (46.93%), Mother-in-Law Terms (2.64%), Religious Terms (13.60%), Sex Terms (10.08%), and the use of left hand (0.88 %). Meanwhile, for the functions swear words researcher found that there are five functions of swear words, such as Abusive Swearing (09.21%), Cathartically Swearing (39.03%), Descriptively Swearing (24.57%), Emphatically Swearing (14.47%), and Idiomatically Swearing (12.72%).
