Abstract
This research focuses on two aspects of the jargon used in the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, namely meaning and function. The aim of this research is to perform semantic analysis and explore the function of jargon in the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Qualitative descriptive methods were applied in this research. Data taken from the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and videos from YouTube. The research results show that there are 148 jargons used by players of the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Based on the meaning category, 40% of the jargon has a conceptual meaning, with 59 jargon items, 5% of the jargon has a connotative meaning, with 8 jargon items, 2% of the jargon has an affective meaning, with 3 jargon items, 0% jargon has an expressed and collocative meaning, with 0 jargon items, 47% of jargon has associative meaning, with 69 jargon items, and 6% of jargon has thematic meaning, with 9 jargon items. Based on the function category, 100% of jargon is to give speakers in a specific domain clear and unambiguous terms to refer to their activities, with 148 items of jargon and jargon is to give speakers of a subgroup a way to mark members in the group and involve outsiders, with 0 jargon items and 0% percentage usage, and all the jargon used in the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang depends on the context when the player plays the online game.
