Abstract

The problem in this research is what types of expressive speech acts exist in the main character in the Netflix series Anne with an E season 1 and what is the function of the expressive speech acts in the main character in the Netflix series Anne with an E season 1. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The data source in this research is dialogue utterances from the Netflix series Anne with an E season 1 which aired on March 19, 2017, and has 7 episodes. The data in this research is the speech in the dialogue used by the main character. This research data was collected using the scrutinize technique. The data analysis used in this research is an interactive model, namely reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. In this research, there were 6 types of expressive speech acts, with a total of 37 data, namely 18 data of thanking, 1 data of congratulating, 8 data of apologizing, 5 data of deploring, 2 data of condoling, and 3 data of welcoming. In this research, there were 10 functions of expressive speech acts, with a total of 68 data, namely 4 data of expressing gratitude, 7 data of expressing pleasure, 23 data of expressing appreciation, 10 data of expressing guilt, 2 data of expressing sympathy, 4 data of expressing dislike, 3 data of expressing disagreement, 4 data of expressing welcome, 4 data of expressing sad, and 7 data of expressing angry.
