Abstract

The increasing number of individuals diagnosed with dementia globally calls for innovative approaches to monitor daily activities and locations to reduce the risk of wandering. This study develops a real-time location monitoring and routine reminder system based on the Internet of Things (IoT), integrated with a mobile application. The system is designed to assist individuals with dementia—particularly the elderly and cognitively impaired young adults—in managing their daily routines independently, while offering peace of mind to family members and caregivers through real-time location tracking. The technology incorporates GPS for precise location monitoring, daily activity reminders, and automated notifications for caregivers when a deviation from the usual route is detected. The development process involved creating a prototype consisting of a mobile application and IoT components, including the ESP32 WROOM microcontroller, Ublox Neo6M V2 GPS module, and SIM800L V2 GSM module. Keywords: Dementia, Global Positioning System (GPS), Reminder Application, Internet of Things (IoT), Real-Time Monitoring.
