Abstract

Communication plays a vital role in human life, whether in conveying messages or collaborating with others. However, not everyone possesses the ability to communicate conventionally. Individuals who are hearing-impaired and speech-impaired must rely on sign language to interact, which presents a challenge when communicating with people who do not understand sign language. Although this problem can be addressed by employing sign language interpreters or through direct learning by others, such solutions are often costly and time-consuming. In this study, the author proposes a system for detecting hand gestures using the YOLO (You Only Look Once) method. YOLO is capable of detecting and recognizing multiple objects simultaneously, regardless of lighting intensity and background complexity. This research aims to develop a hand gesture recognition system for Indonesian Sign Language or Sistem Isyarat Bahasa Indonesia (SIBI) to assist communication between hearing individuals and those who are hearing-impaired and speech-impaired ones. Keywords: Hearing-impaired and Speech-impaired, Indonesian Sign Language, , YOLO (You Only Look Once), Hand Gesture Recognition
