Abstract

This research explores the depiction of family relationships in Meg Cabot's novel, The Princess Diaries, and their influence on the character development of Mia Thermopolis as she navigates significant life changes. The study highlights the complexities of Mia's relationships with her mother, Helen, her father, Prince Philippe, her grandmother, Grand’Mere, and her cousin, Michael. Through qualitative literary analysis, the research reveals how these familial interactions provide emotional support, model behavior and values, and reflect broader societal influences that shape Mia's identity. The findings underscore the importance of family dynamics in fostering personal growth and resilience, illustrating how love and conflict within familial bonds contribute to Mia's journey of self-discovery. Ultimately, the study emphasizes that family relationships, while often challenging, can serve as a source of strength and understanding, guiding individuals through the complexities of adolescence and identity formation.
