Abstract

This study aims to analyze the personalities or characteristics of Charlotte, the main character of Charlotte’s Web, a novel written by E.B. White. To conduct the study, the researcher proposes two questions: 1) What kinds of personalities does Charlotte, the main character of the novel, have, and 2) Why is the main character depicted as having such personalities? The study is a descriptive qualitative one. It is done using Abram’s Objective Theory. The scope of the study is therefore only around the intrinsic elements of the novel, Charlotte's Web. The study finds that the main character of the novel, Charlotte, has good personalities or personalities. Those are a) honest, b) compassionate, c) courageous, d) responsible, e) hardworking, and f) cooperative. The good personalities are depicted through the actions, attitudes, and dialogues portrayed in the novel. The researcher concludes that Charlotte, the main character, is presented in the novel as having good or positive personality for portrayaal purposes. As the novel is a literary work for children, it is not meant just to entertain children. By knowing the main character’s good personalities presented in the novel, the readers are indirectly learn about life good and positive virtues as shown by Charlotte, the main character of the novel.
