Abstract
This study aims to analyze the visual and text elements of protest posters under the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap on Twitter to examine how political criticism and collective participation are constructed through multimodal discourse. Using a qualitative approach, the research applies Halliday’s (1978) Social Semiotics and Kress and van Leeuwen’s (2006) Visual Grammar to analyze four posters circulated between 17 February and March 2025. The analysis identifies four themes: government hypocrisy and greed, structural violence and civilian powerlessness, public resistance to authoritarian legislation, and the illusion of efficiency leading to the erasure of national values. Each poster strategically combines emotionally charged imagery with bold, ironic text to construct layered political critiques. These visual-textual interactions form intersemiotic relationships that foster civic reflection and solidarity. The results show that #IndonesiaGelap protest posters function as powerful tools of digital activism and political resistance in the Indonesian context.
