Abstract

Poor and uncomfortable air quality in the surrounding environment results from vehicle emissions, land burning, and the greenhouse effect, all of which can have serious health impacts. However, the development of real-time air quality monitoring systems for the general public remains limited. This research aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based air quality monitoring system capable of providing real-time air quality information and warning notifications. The system was developed using a prototype approach with an ESP32 device connected to a DHT-22 sensor for temperature and humidity measurements and an MQ-135 sensor for detecting carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Parameter data are transmitted via a RESTful API and displayed in real time on the application's main page. Test results demonstrate that the system successfully classifies air quality based on temperature, humidity, CO, and CO2 levels, sends periodic warning notifications when air quality changes, and effectively filters and summarizes historical data. This system has proven highly effective in providing accurate air quality information, is easily accessible to users, and promptly responds to warning notifications, thereby helping users maintain a healthy and comfortable indoor environment.
