Abstract
ABSTRACT Oil palm is one of Indonesia's plantation crops, experiencing very significant growth. For farmers, oil palm trees are affected by many factors that can reduce harvest productivity due to pest and disease attacks. This issues is due to the limitations of farmers’ budgets and their knowledge in identifying and managing plant diseases. The author conducted a study on a web-based expert system that used forward chaining to diagnose oil palm diseases based on visual symptoms observed on the plants. The data used in this study were obtained from the agrotechnology website, which includes various plant symptoms resulting from pest and disease attacks. This data was collected through secondary data collection techniques by utilizing the information on oil palm diseases available on the website. The methods employed in this research include feature extraction from visual symptom data and pattern recognition using forward chaining. Feature extraction was performed to identify specific characteristics of each disease based on observed symptoms, while the forward-chaining method was used to analyze and match symptom data with the knowledge base input to the system. Experimental results indicate that the developed expert system can accurately diagnose various oil palm diseases. The system also provides effective management recommendations for each detected disease. Among the numerous experiments conducted, the forward chaining method proved to be the best approach for diagnosing oil palm diseases based on observed visual symptoms. Therefore, this expert system is expected to assist farmers in identifying and managing diseases in oil palm plants, enhancing productivity, and reducing economic losses caused by pest and disease attacks Keywords: Expert System, Diagnosis, Disease, Forward Chaining, Oil Palm.
