Abstract
Morphological analysis is the main ideas in studying vocabulary. Morphological analysis itself is analysis that is breaking a word into its elements (root, prefix and suffix). Meanwhile, derivational affixes is the part of morphological analysis. This study has two objectives. The first one is to find out the affixes found in the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Second one is to find out the functions of affixes found in the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The method of research in this study is a qualitative descriptive. The reference books were used as the basic theories to find the subcategories of affixes and the functions of affixes. The object of this study is Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen. The data of this study are in the form of words. The data collecting technique is done by reading, searching, underlining and collecting. After that, the analysis technique is done by finding, listing, describing and analyzing how each word is form. The result of this study shows that there are 179 words which found in the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. There are 9 prefixes consists of a- (1), dis- (9), en- (1), im- (5), in- (9), mis- (2), over- (1), re- (1) and un- (20), 20 single suffixes consists of -able (23), -ance (7), -ation (4), -cy (1), -dom (1), -ence (5) -er (1), -ful (7), -ion (15), -ity (4), -ive (1), -less (6), -ly (29), -ment (13), -ness (9), ous (1), -ship (1), -sion (1), -ure (1) and -y (7) and 14 double suffixes consists of ably (5), -ableness (2), -ally (4), -anship (1), -fully (5), -fulness (4), -ionable (2), ionship (1) -ively (2), -iveness (1), -lessly (1), -lessness (2), -ously (1) and ousness (1). Last, the functions of derivational affixes found in Pride and Prejudice are Adjectives maker (45), adverb maker (48), noun maker (83) and verb maker (3).
