Abstract

The research, entitled “An Analysis of Slang Used in Keeping Up With The Joneses Movie” is intended to find the type and meaning of slang word in Keeping Up With The Joneses movie. Sources of research data obtained from transcript in the film Keeping Up With The Joneses. Keeping Up With The Joneses is an American comedy movie produced Greg Mottola. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method and describes one by one word of slang language from the movie. From the analysis, the writer selects two types of slang, they are public house slang and society slang. To support the analysis, the writer uses some dictionaries of slang language and other related references. The writer also uses some theories that related to slang language and the definition of slang. To find the words of slang, the writer has already selected sixteen of slang words from the movie and analyzes them one by one then the writer categorize that slang words into form of word. It can be concluded that from the Keeping Up With The Joneses movie, there can be found the words of slang such as: guys, ya, buddy, honey, ‘em, gonna, outta, hooked up, wanna, kinda, lemme, what’s up, gotta, ‘cause, shit, and damn.
