Butane and methane gas found in mountain craters is dangerous if it is directly smelted, methane is flammable if its concentration reaches 5-15% in the air, the acute effect of exposure to methane gas is lack of oxygen, which is <16%. Health problems will arise when exposed to high concentrations of methane gas such as: rapid breathing, increased pulse rate, decreased muscle coordination, increased emotions, nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, and death. The problem that occurs is that the distance is too far to control every activity of the crater, so this research was made by building a dangerous gas monitoring tool based on Internet Of Things that can work in long distances. The tool built consists of several constituent components including: NodeMCU ESP8266, MQ-2 gas sensor, Arduino IDE, buzzer, battery, Stepdown LM2596 and cellphone. The way the device works is to detect the presence of gas and then send data to the handphone via a wifi signal, if the detected data exceeds 400 then the buzzer installed on the device will ring. The results of the experimental tools carried out are on mobile phones showing numbers worth 0 to 1024, but in this tool the minimum number displayed is around 180 to 195, in that condition means the gas level is normal, when the number is displayed> gas has been detected toxic, the level of error in this tool occurs and depends on the voltage received by the gas sensor and NodeMCU ESP8266, if the voltage is less and unstable then the error rate increases which has an effect on the appearance of excessive and unstable data.
