Abstract

This study was conducted based on the existing problems in class X SMA N 1 Pakem in which there was an indication of low level of interpersonal communication marked by the behavior of being not able to mingle with friends in the class, not open to his friend, have little empathy for others, less adaptable in the new neighborhood, etc. The purpose of this research is to determine whether the group counseling services with sociodramas role play technique can enhance interpersonal communication of class X SMA N 1 Pakem. Researchers chose to use sociodrama role play technique because students were required to be able to experience the problems in the role play based on the topics covered. This sociodramas will encourage the group to make interpersonal communication between players. This type of research was classroom action research with two cycles of action where each cycle conducted three meetings. The subjects in this study were 8 students who had low interpersonal communication. Sampling technique used was purposive sampling techniques and data collection instruments used were observation and questionnaires. Data analysis technique used was the t-test. The results showed interpersonal communication before the given action produced an average score of 44.66% with a lower category and after a given action it had increased the average score becomes 57.81% with medium category. Results Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) was 0.00 with a standard error of 5% (0.00 <0.05) so that Ha Ho accepted and rejected, which meant (significant) there was an increase of interpersonal communication through sociodrama role play group counseling techniques in class X SMA N 1 Pakem. The benefits of research to the guidance and counseling teachers, it could be used as an ingredient to provide group counseling to students who were experiencing problems related to the lack of interpersonal communication.
