Abstract

ABSTRACT Over time, the amount of waste that is treated improperly has increased. To minimize the waste, a research is then carried out about the use of waste, in this case, the waste which is used as construction material. The purpose of this research is for the proper utilization of waste, one of which is used as a mixture of concrete, whereas the used waste are coconut fibers and shells. This research is carried out to compare normal concrete with the concrete using coconut fibre and fly ash of shell. The percentages of the added ingredients used in this research are 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1% of the weight of cement. The concrete treatment is carried out at the Laboratory of Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Yogyakarta for 28 days using the curing method. The planned concrete quality is 30 MPa. In this research, the type of testing that is carried out is a flexural strength test with 12 concrete block specimens, each variation of 3 samples of test specimens carried out at the Laboratory Materials of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. From the analysis results that has been done, for the average flexural strength of normal concrete is 2.93 MPa, the specimen with the percentage of material added 0.25% by 3.99 Mpa, the test object with the percentage of material added 0.5% of 4.09 MPa, while the test object with a percentage of 1% added material has a flexural strength of 3.59 MPa. From the research result that has been done, that the use of coconut fiber and fly ash of shellfish with a percentage of 0.5% can be recommended for direct application on the field.
