Abstract
Computer Based Test (CBT) is increasingly used in conducting examinations in Indonesia. The use of computers as a means of supporting tests can increase the speed of correcting answers. However, at present the answer correction system is only often used for the type of multiple choice exam for which the choice of answers has been provided, and the examinee is only asked to choose the most correct answer. Whereas for essay or fill type tests, the system has not been able to correct the answers given by the examinee because they have to match the answer key with the answers of the various participants. The workings of correcting essay answers are by matching the answer key with the student's answer, and this can be done using the Rabin-Karp method. Rabin-Karp works by matching patterns between keys and answers that have been hashing before. The presentation of the online exam system will make it easier for students and teachers to carry out the exam and do not need a long correction time, because the system will make corrections immediately after the student sends an answer.
