Abstract

ABSTRACT Technological developments that are increasingly progressing encourage people to be even harder to create and innovate. The touch of technology is felt to make it easier to find out information quickly and precisely. As well as trash cans that can be controlled and accessed remotely by providing information and data on the state of the trash status directly, even with far and different locations. The trash can can be implemented in the surrounding area, especially on the University of Yogyakarta campus in order to facilitate the collection of garbage by janitors. For this reason, research was conducted with the title "Designing an Internet of Things (IoT) Based Trash Can Using Telegram Applications. The design of the trash can uses the Internet of Things (IoT) technology using hardware in the form of NodeMCU ESP8266 which functions as a data processor from every trash can and uses an Ultrasonic proximity sensor that serves to detect the level of garbage capacity. While the software used uses a Telegram application that functions as a recipient of information from every trash can. Information that can be accessed includes waste capacity (%), garbage status and the location of the trash can. The design of this trash can if the waste capacity is more than 80%, it will send information automatically to the Telegram application. The results of HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor testing obtained a tolerance value of ± 0.2143 cm and the results of testing the Internet of Things (IoT) based trash can obtained an accuracy of 99.14%.
