Abstract

ABSTRACT In accordance with the progress of the age, the rapidly increasing electricity demand is felt by all groups from urban to rural areas. At present, in Indonesia the electricity needs of the community use PLN services. Almost all Indonesian people enjoy electricity services from these companies. However, the increase in electricity demand is not accompanied by the addition of electricity supply to consumers so that electricity companies in Indonesia appeal to all consumers to make electricity savings. Responding to the appeal, PLTS is planned in the parking area of Campus 1 University of Technology Yogyakarta for public lighting functions that aim to reduce dependence on PLN and utilize renewable energy in the form of sunlight. The total power used is 46.5 KWH per 12 hours in one day. There are 43 units of solar installation each of which has a capacity of 220 wp and a storage battery of 10755Ah. The result is that the power stored on the battery can supply electrical power to the lighting load for 2 days. The cost of paying electricity every year is Rp. 24,562,267. The initial planning cost is Rp. 311,460,000. So for 13.6 years the installation of the initial PLTS will return and the following year, University of Technology Yogyakarta is free of electricity charge for lighting.
