Abstract
This study aims at analyzing the self-sacrifice of the main character, Stephen Hawking who get ALS ilness, in a film “The Theory of Everything” (2014). There are two problem statemens in this study: 1) What kinds of self-sacrifice are done by Stephen Hawking: 2) How does he sacrifice himself for other’s happiness . The writer uses Objective Theory from M.H. Abram and Self-sacrificing Theory from John M. Oldham to help her study the subject. The data were analyzed by using qualitative research design. The data were collected by watching the film repeatedly, reading the script, reading some books, journals, and articles which related to the subject as the references. The analysis of this research result in some findings. There are four kinds of sacrifice that Stephen Hawking has done. Those are: 1) Generosity, 2) Service, 3) Considerate attitude, and 4) Endurance. Key words: self-sacrifice, generosity, service, considerate attitude, endurance
