Abstract
This study is about figurative language. The objective of this final paper is to find out the figurative language in Bullet for My Valentine’s song lyrics. The researcher analyzed each figurative language using Perrine’s theory. In this final paper, the researcher tried to explore figurative language, types of figurative language, and the song lyrics that are categorized as figurative language. This is qualitative study because the data are expressions of figurative language in Bullet for My Valentine’s song lyrics. The researcher used the note taking technique because all of data are taken from the song lyrics. After collecting the sentences that are categorized as figurative language, the researcher tried to analyze it by using Perrine’s theory through description and interpretation. Based on the analysis, there are two results that the researcher found in Bullet for My Valentine’s song lyrics. First, the researcher found five types of figurative language. It can be categorized as hyperbole with 12 data, metaphor with 15 data, personification with 3 data, irony 4 data, and simile with 4 data. Second result is the most frequent figurative language in the Bullet for My Valentine’s song lyrics, which is metaphor.
