Abstract

The aims of this research were to describe the students’ ability in speaking English and to find out the contribution of YouTube videos to students in learning. The type of this research was descriptive statistic in which the data were collected through speaking test and questionnaire. The speaking test was used to collect the data related to the students’ ability in speaking English, and the questionnaire was used to find out the contribution of YouTube videos to students in learning. The questionnaire consisted of 20 questions. The research finding showed that the mean score of students’ ability in speaking English was above average. It can be seen from the mean score of the student in the speaking test which was 74.57. Meanwhile, YouTube Videos also contributed to (1) increase students’ interest; (2) improve the students’ pronunciation; and (3) give new experience to the students in learning. Keywords: YouTube videos, Ability, speaking Skill, Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara Bahasa inggris dan untuk mengetahui kontribusi video YouTube pada siswa dalam pembelajaran. Jenis penelitian ini adalah statistik deskriptif dimana data yang dikumpulkan melalui Speaking test dan angket yang berjumlah 20 pertanyaan yang bertujuan untuk mengumpulkan data terkait dengan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara Bahasa inggris, dan angket bertujuan untuk mengetahui kontribusi video YouTube kepada siswa dalam pembelajaran. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa skor rata-rata kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara Bahasa inggris berada di atas rata-rata. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari nilai rata-rata siswa pada speaking test adalah 75, 57. Sementara itu, video YouTube juga berkontribusi (1) meningkatkan minat siswa; (2) meningkatkan pengucapan siswa; dan (3) memberikan pengalaman baru kepada siswa dalam belajar.
