Abstract

Penelitian ini didasari oleh rendahnya tingkat studi lanjut lulusan Sekolah Menengah Atas sederajat baik negeri maupun swasta ke Perguruan Tinggi di Indonesia, serta adanya ketimpangan tingkat studi lanjut ke Perguruan Tinggi perempuan lebih tinggi dari laki-laki, populasi tersebut termasuk ke dalam klasifikasi usia dewasa awal. Sedangkan menurut Hurlock dewasa awal adalah periode usia 18-40 tahun yang merupakan masa penyesuaian diri individu terhadap pola-pola kehidupan dan harapan-harapan sosial baru. Berdasarkan keadaan itulah peran pendidikan tinggi dirasa penting dalam tahap perkembangan ini, karena dengan kemampuan integelensi yang diperoleh dari proses pendidikan tinggi diharapkan dapat membantu individu dalam penyesuaian diri terhadap pola-pola kehidupan dan harapan-harapan sosial baru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan motivasi studi lanjut usia dewasa awal secara umum, menggambarkan motivasi studi lanjut antara laki-laki dan perempuan serta gambaran perbedaan motivasi studi lanjut ke Perguruan Tinggi antara laki-laki dan perempuan usia dewasa awal di dusun Klero, Sumberharjo, Prambanan, Sleman. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa usia dewasa awal di dusun ini cenderung lebih memilih bekerja atau berwirausaha dibandingkan dengan melanjutkan studi setelah lulus SMA sederajat, selain itu populasi perempuan cenderung memilih melanjutkan studi ke perguruan tinggi setelah lulus SMA sederajat, sedangkan populasi laki-laki cenderung untuk lebih memilih bekerja atau berwirausaha setelah lulus SMA sederajat. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh pengaruh faktor intrinsik (kemauan, kebutuhan, harapan) perempuan yang berbeda dengan laki-laki, sementara untuk pengaruh faktor ekstrinsik (peran orangtua, teman atau pergaulan, keadaan ekonomi keluarga) memiliki pengaruh yang tidak jauh berbeda terhadap motivasi studi lanjut ke perguruan tinggi laki-laki dan perempuan usia dewasa awal di dusun ini. Kata kunci: motivasi, dewasa awal, jenis kelamin The research is based on the low level of advanced study of Senior High School graduates and equivalents both of state and private to schools in Indonesia, as well as the imbalance of advanced study level to female higher education institutions than men. The population were included in early adult classification. Meanwhile, according to Hurlock, early adulthood is age period of 18-40 years which becomes the period of individual adjustment to life patterns and new social expectations. Based on this condition, the role of collage is important of this stage of development, because the ability of integrity obtained from collage process is expected to assist individuals in adjusting to life patterns and new social expectations. The research aims to describe the motivation of early adult to study in general, describe the motivation of further studies between men and women as well to illustrate the differences in motivation for further study in collage between men and women of early adulthood in the villages of Klero, Sumberharjo, Prambanan, Sleman. The results of the research indicated that early adulthood in hamlet tend to prefer working or being entrepreneurs to continuing the study after they graduated from High School or equivalent. In addition to it, female population had bigger motivation to continue their studies to college after graduating high school or equivalent, than the male population who tend to choose working or being entrepreneurs after graduating high school or equivalent. It was caused by the influence of intrinsic factors (willingness, needs, expectations) of women who were different from men, while the influence of extrinsic factors (the role of parents, friends or relationships, family economic conditions) had a lot of impact on motivation for further studies to male and female college of early adulthood in the village.
