Abstract

There are two kinds of induction motors, namely single phase induction motors and three-phase induction motors. Induction motors can continuously rotate or rotate with changing speed. Changing the amount of current, voltage, or frequency can be done to change the rotation speed of an induction motor. In this study, a single-phase Variable Frequency Drive Inverter (VFD Inverter) designed with a frequency to regulate the rotation speed of a 50 watt single-phase induction motor. The frequency can be changed by adjusting the PWM value of an Atmega 328P microcontroller. The method was chosen because the frequency setting with PWM has a wide range. From the inverter test results, it showed an average output current of 0.15 A, an average voltage of 139.46 VAC, and the average power of 22.68 Watt. The maximum rotation speed of the induction motor obtained when the inverter frequency is 50 Hz is 2740 RPM. The magnitude of the rotation speed of a single-phase induction motor depends on the value of the given frequency. The waves generated by this VFD inverter are the square wave.
