Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out the phonological variation which occurs in Nangabulik language and Kawa language. This research discusses about the phonological variation found in Nangabulik language and Kawa language, also the researcher tried to find the dominant type of phonological variation in Nangabulik language and Kawa language. This research is a qualitative research which uses empirical facts in collecting and analyzing the data in three ways. The first is by analyzing the phonological distribution of the two languages. The second is by analyzing the patterns of the phonological distribution. Data were collected by interviewing the informants note taking related document, and observing conversations among the speakers. This research shows that there are three phonological variations of Nangabulik language and Kawa language including vowel variation, consonant variation, and diphthong variation.
