Abstract

This research is motivated by problems from farmers, especially mango farmers. The lack of knowledge about pests and diseases is one of the fundamental problems in agriculture. In terms of pests and diseases, farmers are often wrong in making the diagnosis so that it fails to produce mango. From these problems led to the idea to design and create a web-based expert system that can be used to help determine the diagnosis of a pest and disease that are known from the main symptoms of pests or diseases of mango fruit plants and determine suggestions for controlling pests or diseases. Expert systems are computer-based systems that are used to solve problems as thought by experts. In making this expert system application using the Certainty Factor method. Certainty Factor Method is a method that states confidence in an event (facts or hypotheses) based on evidence or expert judgment. Certainty factor uses a value to assume the degree of confidence of an expert in a data. Keywords: Mango Farmers, Pests, Diseases, Expert Systems, Certainty Factor
