Abstract
This is a study about translation errors that are usually made by the student. The data used by the researcher are bilingual abstracts (Indonesia – English) which are made by non-English Department students of University of Technology Yogyakarta in the graduation year of 2014 to 2016. This study has two objectives. The first objective is to identify the type of translation error category which is made by non-English Department students of University of Technology Yogyakarta, and the second objective is to identify the dominant error category which is made by non-English Department students. This study used a qualitative method and the researcher used note taking method as a data collecting technique. The result of this study shows that there are ten categories of translation errors that are made by non-English Department students of University of Technology Yogyakarta. The categories are addition, grammar, literalness, misunderstanding, omission, punctuation, spelling, syntax, usage, and other errors. The dominant error category is grammar error.
