Abstract
This study entitled An Analysis of Slang Found in Green Street Hooligans Movie is intended to identify the types of slang and the functions of slang in Green Street Hooligans Movie. This study belongs to a descriptive qualitative study. It does not use any statistical procedure, nor statistical calculation in the data analysis. The data are in forms of sentences, phrases, or words taken from Green Street Hooligans Movie. The result of this study shows that slang found in Green Street Hooligans movie belongs to four types of slang based on Eric Partridge’s theory (2004). 82 slang words were found in this movie. They were 16 cockney slangs, 20 public house slangs, 39 society slangs, and 7 workmen’s slangs. In this study, society slang is the most dominant slang found in the Green Street Hooligans movie. The writer also found some functions of slang in this movie. They are functioned to address, to humiliate, to initiate relaxing conversation, to form intimate atmosphere, to express impression, to reveal anger, and to show intimacy.
