Abstract
This final paper is about borrowing words that used in Bahasa Indonesia which is analyzed by using translated novel by Ingrid Dwijani Nimpoeno The Time Traveler’s Wife. The main aims of this research are to explain and describe (1) the types of borrowing, and (2) the process of translation that is used in translating borrowing words from English into Bahasa Indonesia as the target languange. The method that used in this research is descriptive qualitative which focuses on describing kinds and using of borrowing words in translation process from data in the novel The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Neffinegger. The translation process used by the translator in translating words belong to the types of borrowing. The data helps to classify the word categorize of borrowing.The data is taken by reading the source language and its translation then marking up the borrowing words that found in the translated novel in the target language then selecting the borrowing words.All processes of the analyses are based on some theories of borrowing and translation. These theories describe the definition of borrowing and reason of using that borrowing words in target language. Further, the theories explain about groups of borrowing and translation process. The main theory to analyses uses Einer Haugen’s theory about types of borrowing and Venuti’s theory about translation. The researcher found about 496 English borrowing words but the words that are selected by the writer are 50 words which is usually used in targeted language in daily communication.The study of this research drives the researcher in some findings. First, borrowing words also known as loanwords is a use of foreign vocabulary especially in translation activity.Second, the main factors that causing borrowing is language contact. This language contact makes language possible to adopt and assimilate one another. The borrowing word is used because the lack of vocabulary in target language to deliver the source language meaning.Third, the data gives the prove that borrowing happen and classified into three types such as Loanword, Loanshift, and Loanblend. From the data figured, the type of Loanword is the most occurences in the analysis.Fourth, the process of translation that found are domestication and foreignization. While, the most procedure that is used on translating the borrowing words is foreignization. The analyses and findings of this research represent that descriptive qualitative study on the borrowing words describe the borrowing word process and its relation on translation process.
